In a comparatively short
period New Zealand has earned an enviable reputation for producing
world class wines. Principal plantings include Sauvignon Blanc,
Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot blends. In addition to
these Riesling, Pinot Noir and Chenin Blanc varieties may also be
found. Our selection of five different tours encompass the best
of New Zealand's wine industry. It is possible to customize the
proposed itineraries to include other areas sights and
activities. Tours are intended for independent travellers. Choices
of travel modes are available.
Option One
Coach & Train
Travel
The ideal mode for those
who wish to sit back and let professionals take care of the
driving. Travel by coach and train allows everyone the opportunity
to take in the ever changing New Zealand landscape.
Transportation is provided by Newmans and InterCity coachlines and
the passenger services of Tranzscenic trains. Coaches provide unsurpassed
passenger comfort and safety. On most services drivers render informative
commentaries. Railway cars offer comfortable seating, air conditioning,
and wide panoramic windows On train food and beverage services are
available. Your journey is enhanced by the managers informative
commentary. Speeds on New Zealand trains normally do not exceed
100 kilometres ( 60 miles ) per hour.
On arrival in the various wine districts you will be introduced
to the regions vineyards and winemakers ( if possible ) by your
personal guide. All our contracted guides possess outstanding knowledge
on what makes their regions wines so special.
Option Two
Self Drive
Our self drive program provides for daily flexibility
combined with the security of a well planned
itinerary inclusive of pre-booked accommodation. Self drive holidays
include the guided vine tours around the various wine regions thereby
allowing all travellers the opportunity to enjoy the fine wines
on offer.
In addition to providing an introduction
to New Zealand's wine, vacations include the highlights of the Nation's
natural attractions. Sightseeing in Rotorua, Queenstown and tours
to Milford Sound are included in many itineraries.
Accommodation
New Zealand Wine vacations offer travellers the
choice of two different styles of accommodation. All properties
have been selected for their value, location and guest service.
Comfort Grade Accommodation
Comfort grade accommodation is based on hotels of a 3 star to 3
star plus rating. Properties will feature comfortable bedrooms with
en suites, TV, tea and coffee making facilities. Hotels provide
affordable restaurants and bars. Nearly all are located within easy
walking of town centres.
De Luxe Grade Accommodation
The De luxe program includes a mixture of superior hotels and quality
lodge / bed and breakfast stays.
Hotels are of a 3 & 1/2 to 4 & 1/2 star rating offering
a superior standard of guest facilities. Bedroom features will include
en suites, mini bar, cable T.V. and ironing facilities. Hotels provide
one or more of the following amenities, 24 hour room service, fitness
centres, swimming pools etc.
The selected lodges and bed & breakfast stay properties are
of a high standard. Accommodations have ensuite or private bathrooms.
Stays will includes full breakfast and in some locations a three
course dinner featuring the best local produce and wines.
Wine Tours / Guides
Visits to vineyards are conducted by escorts with
an in depth knowledge of their regions wine industry. Tours will
be either personalized tours or with a small group, (not exceeding
approximately 6 persons). Packages do not just bus you from vineyard
to vineyard. We aim to ensure that by the end of each day you will
have an understanding of what makes a each region unique. Where
possible we arrange for you to not only taste the wines but meet
with the wine-makers and viticulturists. Some flexibility in the
tours is also available to include personal interests. All tours
include return accommodation transfers.
