Holiday New Zealand - Westland Express

Cross the Canterbury Plains on the TranzAlpine train. Following the banks of the Waimakariri River reach the Southern Alps and Arthur's Pass. Exiting the Otira Tunnel its on to Greymouth. On arrival join Kea Tours and travel north hugging the rugged coastline to Punakaiki, site of the famous blow-holes. Here the sea surges into sea caves and regularly blasts sea spray high in to the sky. Return to Greymouth via the Papapora National Park one of the country's most beautiful.

Day 2 Glacier Excursion

Drive South to the historic town of Hokitika with its many artisans. Time allows to inspect their studios. Arriving at the Glaciers included is an informative guided walk to the terminal of Franz Josef Glacier. Walk around Lake atheson. with its towering trees and still waters that provide perfect reflections of Mt. Cook and Tasman. Optional is a helicopter flight with on snow landing. At the days end return to Greymouth.

Day 3 Greymouth - Chistchurch

This morning enjoy an excursion to Shanty Town, a reconstructed gold mining town of the 1860's. Here you will learn of the hardship endured by some of the miners and their families along with tales of those who struck it rich. You may even try your hand at gold panning! Returning to Greymouth board the TranzAlpine train. Farewell the coast and retrace the rails to Christchurch. Arrive approximately 6.05pm
